It is not as uncommon, during the ship repair process, when some parts are removed, overhauled and returned to service. But what if the entire equipment needs to be renewed? Is there a guarantee that a newer version of a product will fit in the place of its older predecessor?
Here is a case of Laser Scanning of the heat exchanger using handheld Creaform scanner for the subsequent development of production drawings. The heat exchanger has individual shape with many outlets of different sizes. All outlet’s coordinates must be kept intact to match the counter flanges on board the vessel. In addition to the position of all flanges, great attention is also paid to their orientation (coordinates of the bolted connection).
The new product must be ideally suited to the place installation. The level of accuracy are very important for such kind of proects. The time factor is key for the ship repair industry, so the job must be done right the first time and on time.
The scanning process lasted 3 hours. Real-time scan results that are visible on the computer screen minimize potential unscanned areas, making the process more reliable. The development of scan results is the most important phase of the project. This requires cosiderable experience and skills. Our designers have it both, so the desired production drawings for the replacement equipment were ready the same week.
